POLICE in Pembrokeshire have welcomed the sentence handed down to a Milford Haven man convicted of the supply of drugs in the county.

Gareth James Mann, aged 38 of Charles Street, Milford Haven, appeared on Friday, November 28 before Judge Huw Davies at Swansea Crown Court.

He was sentenced to six years imprisonment for the possession and supply of cocaine in Pembrokeshire and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

In March of this year, Pembrokeshire officers carried out an investigation into the supply of cocaine by Mann.

Mann was subsequently arrested and charged in April, 2014 having supplied cocaine in Milford Haven and having been found in possession of more than £1,100 worth of the drug During the investigation into a separate drugs supply matter in Pembroke, evidence was recovered that established that Mann had attempted to pervert the course of justice while in prison.

It was discovered he had sent a letter from Swansea Prison requesting that a person come forward and falsely admit ownership of the cocaine recovered from him, in return for a substantial financial reward.

DC Mark Jones told the Milford Mercury: “This clearly shows that the use and supply of Class A drugs within our county is taken very seriously by Dyfed-Powys Police, the Crown Prosecution Service and Her Majesty’s Court Service, and those wishing to break the law can expect to be brought before the courts and receive a custodial sentence.

“The misery that drugs bring to local communities will not be tolerated.”
