ALMOST 100 people from around the county came together to celebrate Christmas Day in Milford Haven.

For the third year in a row, guests who might otherwise have spent the day by themselves were treated to a free lunch and an afternoon of festive fun at the Pill Social Centre.

Councillor Guy Woodham, who organises the event with his partner Cllr Colin Sharp, said he had been delighted to see so many people get involved.

He said the individuals, couples and families who had volunteered their time had helped deliver a special day for guests, adding that he hoped this year’s success would convince others in future to not shut themselves away on Christmas Day.

Cllr Woodham also thanked the Port of Milford Haven, Austwel Engineering Ltd, Milford Haven Town Council, Valero, RWE nPower, Milford Haven Slimming World, the Waterloo Club, Mount Post Office and Shop, South Hook LNG, South Hook CHP, Milford Haven Quakers and the numerous individuals who had made a donation towards the day.

Also playing a huge role in the event were chef Scott Gregory, from Caddies Cafe, Haverfordwest, who brought his whole family and nine members of staff with him to help cook up and serve a delicious three-course meal.

And DJ Mark Devonald also gave his time for free, providing music for the whole afternoon.

Tony Pinnell, 88, who moved to Milford Haven nine years ago, thanked Cllrs Woodham and Sharp on behalf of all guests.

“What they have done is out of this world,” he said. “This is the best Christmas I’ve ever had.”
