A celebratory party for a 'hall for all' will take place in Marloes today (Saturday).

Last year Marloes Village Hall was awarded £114,350 from the Big Lottery Fund towards its refurbishment, and the cost of improving facilities and equipment.

The aim was to provide a warm, up-to-date and inviting facility offering a range of activities within the local area.

Originally built as a chapel, the hall is a Grade II Listed building and is formally known as the Welcome Home Hall.

It became a village hall in 1948 when it was purchased for £300, with all money being raised by the villagers of Marloes and St Brides, to provide a meeting place, held in trust, for those returning from the Second World War.

Works, which began in July 2014, included the removal of asbestos roof tiles and re-slating with natural slate, the removal of the internal suspended ceiling and installing insulation and cedar roof boards to showcase the original roof rafters and let in more light from upper window.

Damp plaster work has been removed and the building has been insulated and dry lined.

New stainless steel kitchen equipment has also been installed, disabled toilet facilities have been updated and there is more storage to keep the hall clear and tidy.

New electric lighting and power equipment have been installed and the hall will also offer a hearing loop and new projection/sound equipment, together with new tables and chairs.

A celebratory 'bring and share' tea party will be held on Saturday, January 24, from 3.30pm to 5.30pm, to celebrate the re-opening, and local people are invited to come and admire the finished project.
