Pembrokeshire’s Super Hero Day event kicks off today (Wednesday) with schools, colleges and playgroups being encouraged to dress up, have fun and raise cash for a worthwhile cause or charity.

Pembrokeshire’s Super Hero Day is held around the birthday of Batman actor Christian Bale who was born in Haverfordwest on January 30, 1974.

Last year children and adults dressed up and raised money for Withybush’s Children’s Ward. The funds were spent on items designed to entertain and distract young patients – such as DVD players and iPad minis - facing a challenging time in hospital.

Due to last year’s success, Super Hero Day has now expanded beyond Haverfordwest. The idea is that local communities can hold an event around the birth date of an actor or actress who has played a hero or heroine in a movie, and was born or raised in that area.

This year’s local event will take place between January 28 and February 13, and all money raised will be donated to SNAP (Special Needs Assessment Playgroup) in Pembrokeshire.

SNAP is holding its Super Hero Day tomorrow (Thursday, January 29) at Withybush Hospital. ABC Nursery in Haverfordwest is hoping to join the fun and groups from Neyland and Pennar have also signed up.
