A former solicitor from Pembroke is to admit two frauds totalling £60,000, a judge heard today.

Simon William Griffiths, aged 52, made a preliminary hearing before Judge Paul Thomas at Swansea crown court.

Griffiths, of Rose Valley, Lower Lamphey Road, was not asked to enter any pleas at this stage.

But his barrister, Dyfed Thomas, said his client had made it “abundantly clear” that he would admit two offences of fraud, each involving £30,000.

Mr Thomas said the pleas could have been entered today but Griffiths had not yet been granted legal aid.

The defence wanted the State to fund a medical report on Griffiths but legal aid might not be granted at all if the pleas were entered too early.

Griffiths, who ran Eaves Solicitors, Milford Haven, was struck off in 2013 and is now bankrupt, added Mr Thomas.

Judge Thomas told Griffiths it was in his interests to enter his pleas as soon as possible.

Judge Thomas instructed a probation officer to prepare a report into Griffiths’ background for the sentencing hearing.

A further hearing will take place on February 13 and Griffiths was granted bail meanwhile.
