ROADWORKS in Haverfordwest look set to continue until February of next year, as the county council moves on to the next stage of major road changes near Thomas Parry Way.

Work near Loo Choo roundabout – on the St Davids end of Thomas Parry Way - is scheduled to start today (Wednesday), and last for 52 weeks.

Meanwhile, work at the Churnworks/Blands roundabout is scheduled to be completed on March 19, weather permitting.

A spokesman for Pembrokeshire County Council said the laying of hot rolled asphalt surfacing was temperature dependent, and could be delayed by a ‘cold snap’.

Attempting to clear up the confusion around the new road layout at Churnworks, the spokesman added that vehicles were now no longer able to turn right immediately out of Swan Square, and instead are advised to carry on to Loo Choo roundabout, before heading back to the A40 or A4076.

A temporary sign signalling no U-turns from the A487 (from Morrisons) back towards North Gate/Bridgend Square will remain in place while construction continues.

Work at Churnworks began last summer, with the aim of relieving pressure on the roundabout should the proposed Sainsbury’s store and housing planned for land behind Slade Lane go ahead.

The council has said the proposals will 'improve sustainable transport connectivity' by incorporate a number of walking and cycling paths together with Toucan type crossings to create a safe route into the town centre.

But the drastic changes, and the resulting congestion, have been met with opposition from local people and commuters using the road.
