YSGOL Dewi Sant students recently took a trip to Pembroke Dock to learn more about tidal energy.

Year eight pupils visited Mustang Marine’s shipyard to see the Delta Stream tidal energy device before it makes it journey to Ramsey Sound for a two year testing period.

They heard a presentation from Clive Adshead, Operations Manager at Tidal Energy Limited, and learned how the device will produce renewable energy for homes in St Davids from the seabed.

Mr Adshead said: "Harnessing the power of the tide to produce electricity is an exciting concept. We believe clean, economical and sustainable electricity can be generated using our Delta Stream turbine.

“The power generated by the tide is an essential mix in future power production and being able to showcase and explain our technology to an enthusiastic group of young students has been a privilege. I really hope that some of them will be engineers in the future Marine Renewables Industry."

The trip was organised by the long-term education project run by the Darwin Centre in partnership with Dragon LNG.

Marten Lewis who runs the Darwin Centre, and is a former pupil of Ysgol Dewi Sant, said: “Our thanks go out to Dragon LNG for the 10 years of support which have allowed us to build relationships with industry in Pembrokeshire, and to bring in every school in the county.”
