A NEYLAND man is putting his best foot forward to complete a massive charity challenge.

David Armstrong, 36, is walking the epic 874 mile journey from John o’Groats to Land's End and raising money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research with every step.

David, known as Dai, decided to take on the walk – the equivalent of around 33 marathons – as a personal challenge.

He set off on April 27th and has already had to battle snow, rain and wind in the Scottish Highlands.

The challenge is made all the more impressive because Dai is tackling the trek with just the equipment on his back, and aims to complete the huge effort within about five weeks.

Dai told the Western Telegraph: “The first week was the hardest.

"My body was getting used to what I'm doing and it hurt. It still hurts this week but not as bad, so I'm getting there.”

Asked if he found it hard going being on his own, he said: “I find it okay being on my own, only myself to worry about, but it does get lonely.”

But with friends and family offering support via social media site Facebook, Dai is eating up the miles, averaging around 25 miles per day.

He has already smashed his initial £500 target but Dai is hoping more people will donate as every penny will make a real difference to the charity.

"Thank you to everybody who has donated so far and if anyone else would like to support me I would be incredibly grateful.

“It's tough going but I'm confident of finishing and enjoying a beer when I get back."
