A £68m road scheme project at one of the gateways to Pembrokeshire has won a top Welsh award.
The A477 St Clears to Red Roses improvement has gained the accolade from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Wales Cymru for the best outstanding design and construction of a project over £3million.
The organisation’s Project Awards 2015 celebrate the contribution of civil engineering to Wales by recognising schemes for their excellent in concept, planning and design, contract management and construction.
The George Gibby Award was presented at a ceremony in Cardiff on May 1.
The project was delivered for the Welsh Government by principal designers Ramboll, engineers Hyder Consulting UK Ltd and principal contractors SRB Civil Engineering UK Ltd.
The 9.3km highway, which by-passes the communities of Red Roses and Llanddowror, was opened in April 2014.
Pembrokeshire County Council was nominated for its work to install new joint bearings on the Cleddau Bridge. The £263,000 job saw the first use in Britain of innovative German-made bearings, which are capable of rotational as well as longitudinal movement.
The category - for projects under £3m - was won by The Smart Bridge in Cardiff, which links the Capital Quarter office development to the capital’s retail centre.
