A FAMILY fun day linked to the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War attracted hundreds of visitors to the village of Cosheston on Saturday, June 20.

The Valero-sponsored Cosheston Village Day ran from midday to 10pm at Cosheston Playing Fields.

Events included a Cosheston School fete, a display of WW2 military vehicles and costumes, stalls and exhibits by the Sunderland Trust and the Penfro Model Club, and an exhibition on Cosheston during WW2 by the Cosheston History Group.

The fun day also saw a rounders tournament, afternoon tea with live music by the Penfro Minstrel String Ensemble, a performance by the One Voice community choir, as well as live music from Pembroke’s Shanty Le Hara and The Numbers Racket Swing Band.

The village day, the fourth held in Cosheston, drew even larger crowds than previous years, with a couple of hundred people attending.

Jon Moore, a volunteer in community group Cosh Callout, said: “It went really well, a lovely day and a good community event.

“Everybody would say one of the highlights during the first part of the day was the school choir who sang four songs from the 1940s, that was wonderful, everybody packed in for that, they sang beautifully.”
