A GROUP of young people from Fishguard Youth Club recently presented a cheque for £335.15 to their local RNLI station.

Around 12 people between the ages of 11 and14 organised a ‘sponsored stay awake’ at the Popworks centre from 8pm until 7am.

Senior Youth worker Danielle Kitson-Jones said: “The group was asked several years ago to choose a local charity to support, and because a few of them live in Goodwick and regularly see the lifeboats, they decided to choose the RNLI.

“They handed over the money they had raised at the lifeboat station on a training evening so it also gave them an opportunity to see the volunteer crew at work and get a closer look at both boats. They love doing the event and are already looking forward to the next one.”

RNLI fundraiser Roger Tayler added: “The Youth Club has been doing this for over four years now and in that time has raised well over £1,000. We are extremely grateful that they chose us as their charity to support and for the money they have raised to help keep our volunteer service going.”

He added: “Youngsters quite often don’t get recognised for some of the things they do, but that is not the case here, many thanks to all of them.”

Fishguard Youth Club is based at the Popworks, Parc-y-Shwt and offers young people between the ages of 11-25 a range of social, recreational and educational opportunities. More information can be found on: www.facebook.com/popworks
