RNLI lifeguards rescued a bodyboarder caught in a rip current off Newgale beach earlier this afternoon (Tuesday).

RNLI lifeguard Callum Walton spotted the bodyboarder, a man in his late 20s, waving for help off Newgale south at 12.15pm a spokesman for the organisation said.

The man was bodyboarding with his father and brother-in-law in the ‘buffer zone’ of the beach – the unmarked area between the red and yellow flags and the black and white chequered flags.

Callum quickly paddled out on the rescue board to the man and safely brought him back to shore.

Once back on the beach he was assessed but thankfully none the worse after the incident.

RNLI lifeguards provide a daily safety service on Pembrokeshire beaches between 10am-6pm throughout the summer season.
