Milford Haven’s Torch Theatre has been shortlisted in two categories of the Arts and Business Cymru Awards to be announced this evening (Wednesday).

The first category The Torch has been shortlisted in is the Arts, Business and Brand Identity category, for the partnership with The Scarlets rugby team on the theatre company’s production of Grav.

Ray Gravell was the most famous Scarlets player of all time and Grav the play was officially launched at Parc y Scarlets with a live pitch-side extract performed by actor Gareth Bale.

The Torch Theatre has also been shortlisted in the Arts, Business and Young People category for their partnership with Pembrokeshire-based energy company Dragon LNG, for their project called This is Me, which improves young people’s confidence, interview and presentation skills through drama.

Business development officer at The Torch Theatre, Lynn Preece, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted in these two categories of the Arts and Business Awards. Over the last year the Torch Theatre has been creating ways in which we can engage business and develop mutually beneficial partnerships. Being shortlisted demonstrates that this approach works.

“We look forward to developing a joint strategy to strengthen our relationship with both the Scarlets and Dragon LNG in the future.”

The winners of the awards will be revealed at Wales Millennium Centre this evening, July 1.

Pembrokeshire audiences will be able to catch Grav at the Torch Theatre on July 23 and 24 before it heads off to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Peter Doran, who also took another Torch production, Whose Afraid of Rachel Roberts, to the Fringe in 2013, said the theatre was delighted to be heading to the festival again.

“The two shows we are presenting have both had sell-out runs earlier this year and great critical reviews.

“We’re grateful to the Arts Council of Wales for their financial support and we’re honoured to be representing Wales in such a prestigious event,” said the theatre’s artistic director Peter Doran.
