Canolfan Hermon's assistant centre co-ordinator is celebrating the end of her six months at the centre with a cycling challenge to raise funds for the community facility.

Nerys Craig, from Clunderwen, is setting off on a three day 68 mile adventure with her three children along the historic Canal du Midi in France to raise funds for the centre's Frenni Youth Project.

"As my six month post comes to an end I am delighted that we have managed to incorporate so many events at the centre from workshops, kid's fun days, historic walks, a senior luncheon club and a youth project to name a few," she said.

The centre is a place close to Nerys' heart; her grandmother, along with her six great aunts and uncles, were pupils at Canolfan Hermon in its previous incarnation as the village school.

"The Canolfan has had such an immense journey over the centuries," she said. "Since 2004 there has been an incredible collective of energy to re-invent the building into the stunning facility it is today."

Nerys' final event at the centre will be the Gwyl Dere Nol on July 11; a 12 hour mini festival bringing back the vibe of the Celtic Blue Rock.

She is hoping to continue her involvement with the Frenni Youth Project as a volunteer and says the project "needs desperate funding". Nerys will try and raise some of this herself during her Canal du Midi cycle challenge.
