An 18 year-old man has died after entering the water at the Mill Pond Pembroke, police have confirmed.

The teenager got into difficulties at around 2.40am.

Dyfed-Powys Police Temporary Inspector Catrin Thomas said: “At approximately 2.40am this morning, police received reports that an 18 year old man had gone into the water in Mill Pond, Pembroke, had got into difficulties and had not been seen since.

"A large scale search operation was commenced immediately, involving specialist fire and rescue teams, the Coastguard, RAF Kinloss, police and the local authority.

"The search has continued throughout the night, but sadly the body of a male person has now been recovered.

"Next of kin have been informed.”

A spokesman from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Following a call at 2.45am this morning approximately 20 firefighters from Pembroke Dock, Milford Haven and Carmarthen, including specialist Swift Water Rescue teams using search boats, attended reports of a person in the water at Mill Pond, Pembroke.

"Fire crews working with Dyfed Powys Police, Coastguard and RAF Kinloss continued searching throughout the night, however earlier this morning firefighters recovered the body of an 18 year old male. 

"Firefighters left the scene at 10.02am."
