A teenager coasteerer who dislocated both shoulders while tombstoning off rocks at Porthclais was airlifted to Withybush Hospital on Monday.

The 19-year-old was one of two men jumping from rocks into the sea near the entrance of Porthclais harbour. He was injured shortly before 3.40pm.

St Davids all weather lifeboat (ALB) was deployed to the incident, four crew members went ashore on the Y boat and administered first aid and pain relief, keeping the casualty comfortable until the arrival of the new coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon.

St Davids and Broad Haven coastguards were also tasked to the incident. Coastguards closed the cliff path for public safety while the teenager was winched aboard the helicopter.

Rescue helicopter 936 arrived on scene at 4.30pm. After assessing and stabilising the casualty they winched him on board.

The teenager was transferred to Withybush Hospital. His condition was described as stable with non life-threatening injuries.

This was the first time that the new coastguard helicopter has been deployed in the area.

St Davids lifeboat returned to station at 5.45pm.
