YOUNGSTERS in Fishguard are having their say when it comes to deciding on the play area in their town.

The recreation area at Lota Park is in dire need of a refresh, and local young people are being given the chance to choose what new play equipment and activities they would like to see at the facility.

Spearheading the Save Our Playgrounds project is Fishguard and Goodwick town councillor, Dani O’Connor, who, with the help of Pembrokeshire County Council, has already re-energised the play area on the Parrog in Goodwick with new play equipment, attracting children from all over Pembrokeshire.

Cllr O’Connor said: “I am very much looking forward to finding out what the residents of Fishguard and Goodwick would like us to aim for.

“I really hope we can get a fantastic play park for the youth of Fishguard that will also bring more people into the town to benefit businesses as is happening in Goodwick.”

With this in mind, Cllr O’Connor, the county council’s play sufficiency officer, Damian Golden, and Marc Mordey, of Communities Together, are inviting local youngsters and their parents to come to the Phoenix Centre, Goodwick, to plan their perfect play area.

The fun-packed event, which runs from 12pm-4pm on Saturday, September 12, includes arts and crafts, games, plus the chance to meet the characters from Frozen. Free refreshments will be available.

The project is also being supported by the Fishguard and Goodwick Community Forum, which will be supporting the group’s funding applications.

Some children from the area have already been doing research, road-testing excellent examples of play parks around the county, including Broad Haven, Marloes, Hubberston, Summerhill and Templeton.
