A rare sight in the sky has been spotted over Narberth by a five-year-old boy.

Ben Barton was in the town’s High Street with his mum Louisa and two-year-old brother Tommy when he sighted an upside-down rainbow on a sunny afternoon last week.

“Ben said: “Mummy, why is there a rainbow in the sky with no rain?” and when we looked up, there it was - completely the wrong way round,” said Mrs Barton, of Llanddewi Velfrey.

“It was a really nice sight so I took a photo, and Ben was very pleased to go into school next day and tell his teacher.”

Scientifically known as an circumzenithal arch, the phenomenon - or ‘smile in the sky’ - only occurs when thin wispy cirrus clouds are at a specific angle to the sun, according to the Met Office.

Ben’s ‘smile in the sky’ was captured on camera by his mum at 5.20pm on Monday September 28.
