A public meeting to explore the development of a time bank for North Pembrokeshire’s Frenni Area will take place this evening (Wednesday).

Time banks are growing in popularity across the UK and reward volunteers with a time credit for giving up their time to volunteer with community groups. Time credit can then be redeemed for free against access to swimming pools, museums, gyms, theatres, cinemas etc.

"We have held one meeting in Canolfan Hermon Hall and the response to explore setting up the time banking project was most enthusiastic," said Regional development officer Karen Scott.

“We now need to discuss how time credits might work in the Frenni Area and Pembrokeshire. The next step will be a workshop around issues such as, what sort of model people want, which groups would like to get involved and who would commit to being the main host or lead agency."

Cris Tomos of Canolfan Hermon and Cwm Arian Renewable Energy Cooperative coordinated the first meeting.

"The concept of rewarding volunteers for doing good work within their community is an important element of giving recognition to people who make that importance difference to society," he said.
