A SITE visit will take place before plans to build 55 new homes in Kilgetty are decided.

The application from Millbay Homes came before the Planning and Rights of Way Committee last Tuesday (October 6) with a recommendation for approval.

It sought full planning permission to build homes on land north of James Park, comprising of a mixture of detached bungalows, semi-detached and detached houses and flats.

The application also includes new roads, footways, parking, landscaping and a play area.

Kilgetty Begelly Community Council recommended refusal due to drainage concerns and sewerage capacity, poor access and the density of the development. A public meeting also raised concerns on the effect the proposal would have on elderly residents and increased flooding on the sports field.

A further 99 representations were received from local residents as well as a 40 signature petition.

Addressing the committee, Matthew Owens from Millbay Homes, said: “The land is allocated within the Local Development Plan with the provision for 75 residential units. Millbay Homes proposes to develop 55.

“Our consultants say the scheme will not impact on the local area, and in particular the sports field which has been referred to by a number of objectors.

“Having also consulted with Welsh Water, there is sufficient capacity within the network to accommodate the scheme.”

Speaking on behalf of the objectors was Barkley Prout, chairman of the Kingsmoor Sports Association.

He said there were serious concerns about the impact the proposed development would have on the sports field and asked for assurances that no additional water will run onto the playing surface.

Cllr Peter Morgan said: “It’ll be better for everyone if we go down and see it”, and his motion of a site visit was backed by a majority of councillors.

The application will therefore come back to committee for discussion at a later date.
