BUILDING a tunnel, bridge or new road are potential solutions to the problem of Newgale's vulnerable shingle bank.

The bank, which has spilled onto and closed the road to St Davids several times over recent years, is the subject of a further consultation by Pembrokeshire County Council.

Earlier this year, the council asked people for their views on an adaption plan for the shingle bank.

A report from a specialist engineering company advised that over quite possibly the next ten years the existing approach of re-profiling the bank after storm failures will no longer be sustainable.

As a result - as part of the council’s wider approach to managing the adaptation of the coastline at Newgale - consideration has been given to how the transport system will be affected.

The new consultation suggests a number of transport planning objectives and potential options for the way forward.

Eighteen proposed solutions have been categorised into six themes. The themes are: Inner Route Corridor, Middle Route Corridors, Outer Route Corridors, Far Outer Route Corridors, Sustainable Travel Improvements and Other.

The solutions are as far reaching as building a tunnel, building a road bridge and constructing a new road behind the Duke of Edinburgh Inn to doing nothing.

The public’s views on these options are being sought and a full list of all 18 solutions is available via the website below.

Once the objectives and possible options have been defined from this process, a further piece of work will be done to link the two and develop a list of preferred options.

To take part in the consultation which is bilingual, go online at Pembrokeshire County Council’s website: www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/haveyoursay

The deadline is Monday, November 16.

There will also be a public meeting at Solva Memorial Hall on the evening of Monday, October 26 at 6.30pm.

Places are limited to 145 and need to be reserved in advance by phoning the County Council’s contact centre on 01437 764551.
