A CURIOUS neighbour who followed the source of a smoke alarm is being praised for saving a home in Milford Haven.

The man heard the noise coming from a property on Prescelly Place on Monday night and saw an orange glow in the kitchen.

He alerted the fire service just after 7pm and two crews from Milford Haven attended.

The source of the fire came from the cooker.

Milford Haven Fire Station Crew Manager Kris Steele said: “The house was quite smoke logged when we arrived on the scene.

“The neighbour did the right thing and helped avert what could have been a catastrophe for the owner of the house.”

Mr Steele also emphasised the importance of having a working smoke alarm in the home.

He said: “We are keen to raise awareness of the Test it Tuesday campaign.

“Take a moment out of your busy day to ensure you and your family are protected from the dangers of fire. All it takes is a quick press to test your smoke detectors.

“If you’re unsure of how to test them, or don't have any, please contact your local fire station and they will be more than happy to help.”
