A man who spat in his partner's face and poured beer over her head, then assaulted her and her mother the following day is due to be sentenced at Haverfordwest magistrates court today (Wednesday).

Alexander Griffiths, 29, of Doulting, Shepton Mallet, has three children with Alison Fletcher. The pair used to live together at an address in Simpsons Cross, where the first assault on Ms Fletcher took place.

Griffiths pleaded guilty to the three assault charges when he appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on January 13, on the basis the second assault on Ms Fletcher and the sole assault on her mother, Ann, had been "reckless rather than intentional".

Prosecutor Ellie Morgan said a restraining order preventing Griffiths from any contact with Ms Fletcher - imposed when he was convicted of another offence against her - had been lifted at the victim's request.

"She realises now it was a foolish decision," Ms Morgan said.

"The assault on Ms Fletcher and her mother took place at Ann Fletcher's home. Griffiths forced his way in, picked up one child and tried to leave. During the ensuing struggle Griffiths hit Alison in the face and grabbed at Ann when she took the child from him, pushing her in to a door frame."

In a 999 call Ann Fletcher made during the incident, Griffiths can be heard swearing and shouting that he wanted to see his children.

Defence solicitor Mathew Greenish said Griffiths, who "used to have a drug issue", denied spitting in Ms Fletcher's face but accepted he may have "sprayed her with spit" while they argued.

"After the first incident, Alison took the children to her parents' house while he was still asleep. When he realised they'd gone, he panicked," Mr Greenish explained. "He accepts he shouldn't have attended Ann's property. The assaults were minor, with little or no injury caused. He wants to be part of his children's lives, but he's gone about it in the wrong manner."

Magistrates adjourned sentencing to today, February 3. Griffiths was released on conditional bail until then.
