REVISED plans have been lodged with Pembrokeshire County Council to build affordable homes at Square and Compass.

Pembrokeshire Housing wants permission for six properties, including two two-bedroom bungalows for the elderly and four one-bedroom flats.

The application site comprises of approximately 0.3 hectares of greenfield land to the east of the Ael-y-Felin estate, between the villages of Penparc and Square and Compass, with access achieved via Ffordd yr Afon.

The site was the subject of a full planning application for the erection of eight homes last April, but the planning committee refused those plans on the grounds that the “siting and scale of the proposed development would not be compatible with the capacity of the settlement or landscape character in terms of the number of units proposed and the isolated location of the development.”

The revised scheme sees a reduction in the number of properties by two, as well as a revised position, layout and site boundary.

Llanrhian Community Council objected to the original plans and also to the new ones. Its latest response said: “The siting and scale of the proposed development would not be compatible with the capability of the settlement and its isolated location. There are no local facilities to support the residents of this development.”

In its planning statement, Pembrokeshire Housing seeks to meet the affordable housing need in the area. At present there is an identified need for 29.5 affordable houses per year within the Brawdy, Llanrhian and Mathry areas, which will not be met by existing Local Development Plan allocations.

Comments are being invited on the application as part of the statutory consultation. You can do this on the Pembrokeshire County Council website by searching for the planning reference 15/1012/PA or by writing to the Director of Development at County Hall, Haverfordwest, SA61 1TP.

Comments must refer to genuine planning considerations and be submitted by Monday, February 29.
