Organisers of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series will be hosting a residents’ meeting in St Davids City Hall this evening, Wednesday, March 9.

After a gap of two years, the competition will be returning to the spectacular Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy in North Pembrokeshire in September for the UK stop in the series.

If anyone has questions or concerns regarding the event they are welcome to attend the meeting which starts at 7.30pm.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s cabinet member for major events, Councillor Rob Lewis, will also be present.

Abereiddy’s famous Blue Lagoon was the first British site to host the series in 2012 and the competition returned the following year. It attracted huge interest locally, with tickets selling out well in advance.

The 2013 competition was a thriller for the UK public when current World Champion Gary Hunt, of Southampton, went on to win with a fantastic final dive.

But to the disappointment of the Pembrokeshire public, organisers then chose not to use the venue for the following two years, despite strongly hinting they would eventually return after many of the divers labelled it their favourite venue.

And sure enough this year the coastal location, owned by the National Trust, will again host one of the nine legs of the series, on September 10 and 11, 2016.

The timing makes for a bumper period of Pembrokeshire sports lovers with the equally famous Ironman Wales event being hosted the following weekend.

For the first time, Abereiddy will play host to both the men’s and women’s rounds, with Hunt and Woman’s World Champion Rachelle Simpson looking to defend their titles.

Some 5,000 tickets for the event’s spectator area will be released this summer.
