A fantastic mural has been created at Hook CP School, depicting the local countryside, community and school.

The colourful mural, which extends along the whole of the outside of the building, was painted by local artist ‘Lloyd the Graffiti’.

The idea originated with Pupil Voice at Hook School and it was funded by the Friends of Hook Association, who were thanked by headteacher Ms Louise John.

Ms John said the aim of the mural was to provide a learning stimulus for the pupils, and that the feedback had been overwhelmingly positive from the children, parents and wider school community.

“Our focus is on making sure that our learning environment encourages the pupils at Hook to be independent learners.”

She said the strong community ethos of the school was also reflected in the work.

“The mural helps to link the school directly to the local community, with references to its important coal mining history, and the Cleddau Estuary. “There are also lots of Pembrokeshire and Welsh details which help to place the school into a wider context, including a castle, a puffin, daffodils and of course, a Welsh dragon!”

Lloyd has also held workshops with the pupils in which they also got to have a go at brightening up an outdoor space at the school with the children designing and painting the climbing wall.
