After being told to go back to the drawing board by the local authority over their previous planning application, a discount supermarket has re-submitted plans for a new shop.

Lidl UK are seeking planning permission to demolish their current Haverfordwest supermarket on Perrots Road and the adjacent car garage (formerly J and G Bland) and replace it with one that is more than double in size (2,443 square metres).

There would be new access for vehicles off Thomas Parry Way, new pedestrian access off Perrots Road, plus a 122 space car park.

Following the refusal of the original planning application in February, a meeting was held between Pembrokeshire County Council's Head of Planning, David Fitzsimon, Development Manager, David Popplewell, Planning Officer, Ceri Jones and the Highways Engineer, Mike Harris and Lidl management to discuss the reasons for refusal and progressing a resubmission application.

Following this meeting, the council issued a Retail Position Statement in April outlining the matters that officers considered would need to be addressed from a retail perspective as part any fresh application and the revised application seeks to address such matters.

The application is due up before the planning committee in the next couple of months.
