A TASKER Milward pupil is making a name for herself in the dog training world after qualifying for Crufts.

Competing at the world’s largest dog show has been a dream for 11-year-old Harriett Hunt ever since she started dog agility four years ago.

The year seven pupil qualified earlier this month and is now putting in the hours to train ahead of the competition in March.

“I’m really looking forward to competing in Crufts,” said Harriett, who qualified at Chippenham Agility Show.

Harriett won both the jumping and agility sections at the competition with her dog Dorothy, meaning she will compete in both at Crufts in the six to 11 age category.

The young dog practises twice a week at Barnlake training centre at Burton with Dorothy, a Jack Russell cross springer spaniel.

Harriett said she enjoys both agility and jumping events, but sometimes finds it difficult to navigate the courses.

“You’re given you about 15 to walk the course and you have to remember it,” she said. “It’s really hard.”

Harriett and her mum, Kerry, travel the country attending dog agility events and staying in her campervan. She took part in Pembrokeshire County Show in the summer.

Kerry praised her daughter’s dedication. “This has been Harriett’s dream for the last four years to compete at Crufts and she’s done it.

“It’s a fantastic achievement.”

Growing up with four dogs at home, Harriett is looking forward to moving up to the 12 to 18 age group next year.

She is also considering a career working with dogs when she's older, and one day wants to have her own dog kennels and training facility.
