WI members have handed out white ribbons in a Pembrokeshire town to highlight the ‘Not in My Name’ campaign against domestic violence.
Ladies from Narberth W.I. took to the High Street on Tuesday to raise awareness of the campaign, which is being supported by the W.I. nationally.
Today (Friday) is White Ribbon Day, the International Day for the Eradication of Violence Against Women, with events held throughout the UK and the world. The white ribbon is a symbol of men’s opposition to male violence against women, and wearing one is a personal pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.
“Everyone we spoke to was pleased to wear a white ribbon and many wanted to know more about the cause to help them to spread the word,” said Judy Smith of Narberth WI.
“We have to recognise that there is domestic abuse everywhere, including Pembrokeshire, and sadly, particularly so at this time of year.
“We also asked people to acknowledge that men, as well as women, can be victims, and that everyone who is a victim must be encouraged to seek out the assistance which is available.”
