Festive bathers are being asked to create fancy dress costumes of note when they splash out in Tenby's annual Boxing Day Swim. For the famous event's dress code this year is the Music of the Sea, with contributions from swimmers also being sought in an entertaining musical contest. "We thought this would be a good celebration of Tenby's musical attachment to the sea," said Chris Osborne, chairman of event organiser, the Tenby Sea Swimming Association (TSSA). "We're sure this will provide waves of inspiration! "As well as junior and senior individual and group fancy dress prizes, there will be a special prize for the best musical effort in the pre-swim parade. "And better to be the judge of that than Tenby's own veteran sea-loving entertainer, Laurie Dale." The swim, which has been named as one of Britain's top ten barmiest festive dips, is ranked as one of Wales' best festive highlights. It is now in its 46th year. The event recently featured in the ITV Wales series The Harbour which was filmed in Tenby and showed a year in the life of the seaside community. Fun on the beach starts at 11am with festive music, a canoe race and the Daitanic raft challenge. The big plunge is at 11.30am, with hundreds of crazy bathers stampeding for the sea, watched by large crowds from every vantage point. Brave bathers can collect for their own charities, or those nominated by TSSA which this year are Bloodwise, The Stroke Association and Tenby-based mental health organisation Hafal. Over the years, the event has raised more than £250,000 for charities and good causes. This year's sponsors are Oakwood Theme Park, Princes Gate Water and FBM Holidays. There's no entry fee - dippers can just download a sponsor form from www.tenbyboxingdayswim.co.uk and turn up on the day.
