THIS weekend is a chance for young people to join an award-winning Youth Ranger scheme with the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

If you’re aged between 16 and 25 and have a passion for conserving Pembrokeshire’s great outdoors, you could be an ideal candidate for the Authority's Youth Ranger scheme.

It is looking for a mixture of young people to join the scheme, which won the UK National Park Volunteer Group of the Year Award in 2015.

To help identify the next group of Youth Rangers, the Park Authority is holding a taster afternoon for potential candidates on Saturday (December 3) at Broad Haven.

National Park Authority Discovery Ranger, Tom Moses said: “We’re looking for young people who want to explore the amazing outdoor places right here on our doorstep and also want to get involved in looking after them for everyone to enjoy.

“The scheme is full of fun and involves a mixture of practical conservation activities, team building and personal development. It is also a great way to enhance your CV, counts as volunteering experience and you can also work towards a John Muir Award.”

Youth Rangers meet once a month on a Saturday with an occasional residential stay, for example an overnight visit to Skomer Island. Food is provided, while help with suitable clothing and transport can also be arranged.

As places at the taster afternoon are limited, anyone who is interested in attending must contact Tom Moses by calling 07773 788 205 or emailing tomm@pembrokeshirecoast.org.uk. Transport from Haverfordwest is also available if required.
