Pembrokeshire charity FRAME will provide a kerbside collection of real Christmas trees in the New Year in partnership with Pembrokeshire County Council.

The free service will commence from Monday, January 9.

Householders wishing to have a collection can arrange one by calling Pembrokeshire County Council's contact centre on 01437 764551.

Residents have until Wednesday, January 11, to do so.

Pembrokeshire County Council is a strategic partner of FRAME and works closely with the charity to provide environmental services for the county.

Once the trees are collected they will be shredded and taken away for composting.

Other options for dealing with real Christmas trees include cutting them into small pieces and placing them in the Garden Waste Bin ready for collection in the Spring or taking them to one of the county's six civic amenity and recycling centres.

"I'm delighted FRAME has agreed to provide this service," said Pembrokeshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, Councillor Huw George.

"Christmas trees are pretty to look at when they are full of decorations but when the needles start to fall off they can cause a nuisance and this timely service takes away the burden of having to dispose of them yourself.

"The festive period is a busy time for everyone and this free service is a great way to ensure 2017 is our greenest year ever."
