THE Lidl Supermarket in Haverfordwest will close its doors on Sunday before being demolished.

A new ‘Lidl of the Future’ superstore will be built in its place and open in winter 2017 – with an extra 20 jobs.

The existing Lidl building and former J and G Blands garage will both be knocked down and replaced with a larger supermarket and carpark.

The new Lidl will be over 50 per cent bigger and have a 112-space carpark.

Entrance to the store will be on Thomas Parry Way with pedestrian access off Perrots Road.

The building will be a mainly single-storey, with a section of first-floor office space. It will be sunk into the ground by 3.9 metres.

Pembrokeshire County Council planners ruled in September that the scheme will improve an area of Haverfordwest by removing two undistinguished buildings and replacing them with a new purpose-built store.
