Pembrokeshire charity CWTCH Pembrokeshire has been recognised by the High Sheriff of Dyfed for the outstanding role it plays in supporting young adults with long term or chronic physical health conditions.

The High Sheriff's award is seen as a formal recognition of the significant contribution made by organisations within the Shrievalty.

Representatives from CWTCH attended the High Sheriff's award ceremony held in Carmarthen earlier this month.

"CWTCH Pembrokeshire is very important," said Professor Medwin Hughes DL, High Sheriff of Dyfed.

"It's an organisation that listens, that allows people to talk freely about their concerns, that makes people feel at ease with their issues and concerns and helps others to help themselves and makes it very clear that we are here to support you."

He said there were many examples of people who had been involved with CWTCH over the years who valued the contribution that it makes, citing the example of one person from Pembroke Dock who said:

"What they gave me was hope. They gave me a reason to go out of the door to deal with my problem."

Beth Job, CWTCH co-founder attended the awards ceremony along with CWTCH volunteer Emma Davies and CWTCH Administrator Lynne Coogan.

"CWTCH was delighted to receive the award and a special thanks goes to the CWTCH volunteers who have been an integral part to our success over the past few years," said Beth.

"We are now in our fifth year and CWTCH has helped many members gain support through our informal and fun support groups.

"2017 is already looking to be an enjoyable year with many free events booked for members such as a spa day, trips to the National Botanical Gardens of Wales and many more.

"We also have a range of guest speakers and therapeutic activities at our fortnightly support groups. This gives our members a little bit of time out from their illness and the chance to learn a new skill."
