One of the main beach accesses in Tenby has been closed to the public after a 10-foot section of stone wall collapsed following last night's heavy rain.

The retaining wall came away from alongside the zig-zag path down to Tenby's North Beach, close to the former site of the amusement arcade.

Pembrokeshire County Council has now temporarily closed the zig-zag.

Said authority spokesman Len Mullins: "The zig-zag will be closed while we inspect the damage and decide what needs to be done to repair it."

The council has also inspected a rock fall at the foot of The Esplanade in Tenby, underneath the seaward garden of the Giltar Hotel.

The fall was discovered yesterday (Tuesday) morning.

The council is now trying to establish ownership of the land before further action is taken.
