A CAPTIVATING documentary featuring Pembroke Dock D-Day veteran Ted Owens will premiere at The Merlin Theatre, Haverfordwest, this Friday.

‘Royal' follows Ted’s journey to Commando barracks across the country, where he discovers what life is like for the modern-day Royal Marine and rediscovers a sense of camaraderie that has only grown over time.

The 92-year-old was a member of 41 Royal Marine Commando which landed at Sword Beach in Normandy on the morning of D-Day.

He was badly wounded and sent home to hospital. Ten weeks later he returned to France and fought through Belgium and Holland.

The 20-minute documentary sees him travel to Royal Marines bases at Plymouth, Yeovilton and Taunton among others on a journey of discovery.

The film’s director, Kristian Kane of Fine Rolling Media, said current Marines paid tribute to the veteran.

“This is the starting point in our mission to capture more stories by the older generation before it is too late and their stories are forgotten forever,” he said.

Last year, Ted was made a Chevalier in the Ordre national de la Légion d'Honneur, one of France’s highest military decorations.

He also opened the VC Gallery’s remembrance exhibition in Haverfordwest in November.

Gallery founder Barry John has been working alongside Fine Rolling Media to document the inspirational stories of local veterans.

“Our aim is to highlight the heritage and history of our veterans who have defended our country,” he said.

“We aim to capture the information for our legacy so we don’t lose these stories.

“If anyone has got any stories that they want to keep alive, please contact us.”

‘Royal’ premiers on Friday, March 31 at 7pm, during which there will be an opening ceremony including songs from a male voice choir.

Tickets are still available. Email contact@finerollingmedia.co.uk or call 07449 905495 for more information.
