PIZZA giant Domino's hopes for a slice of Pembrokeshire trade have been dealt a blow by Tenby town council.

The company is targeting newly-built retail units in Tenby as it plans to get its first foothold in the county.

A planning application for change of use of Units 1-3, South Parade, Tenby from retail to hot food takeaway has been made to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.

The application, by Domino's UK and Ireland Ltd, also includes a request for ancillary seating and the installation of extraction and ventilation equipment.

However, at last Tuesday’s, April 11 meeting of Tenby Town Council, members were outraged by the application, unanimously objecting to it.

The issue that soured the dough for members was the application’s proximity to the town’s war memorial, describing the plans as “disrespectful,” with one member even threatening to resign if the plans were passed.

Amongst seven letters of objection received by the town council were concerns raised by local pizza restaurants Top Joes and Get Stuffed.

The application itself is expected to be decided by Park officers under delegated powers.
