MARIE Curie is challenging savers and spenders in the county to raid their piggy banks, check behind the sofa and clean out their car, as part of the charity’s new fundraising initiative to help people use up their old round pound coins.

As the new 12-sided pound coin enters circulation, Marie Curie is challenging people across Pembrokeshire to collect their old round pound coins between now and October 1 to donate to the charity, ahead of the coins being withdrawn from use on October 15.

Chris Roberts, Marie Curie community fundraiser, said: “Lots of people will be looking to use up their old pound coins before the deadline and we thought it would be a fun way for people to raise vital funds for Marie Curie.

“£20 helps to fund an hour of Marie Curie nursing care and support for people living with a terminal illness and their families, so any old coins lurking in saving jars people are able to donate will make a real difference to people going through such a difficult time and their loved ones.”
