A FUNDRAISING campaign to help a badly injured dog’s story end in a happy tail has raised its target in just one day, thanks to kind-hearted donors.

Young Saluki-cross pup Rocky was brought in to Haverfordwest-based Green Acres Animal Rescue with a badly injured leg, and was facing a very bleak future.

Neyland-based Green Acres Animal Rescue Manager Mikey Lawlor wrote yesterday, April 15: “Yesterday we took Rocky into our care. He is just a baby at 5-6months old and was left at a vets by his owners as he had a broken leg. They said he had been hit by a car. They could not afford any treatment and his future looked very bleak.

“Thankfully a veterinary nurse reached out and the rescue world came together to get him the care he needed to survive.

“Greenacres, 8 Below Husky Rescue and Murphy's Army all rallied around and got him to us.

“This morning he was seen by our fantastic vets at Fenton Vets, Haverfordwest, and they advised an immediate operation, using external fixations to pin the fracture, helping it heal in the correct place.

“We, of course, agreed to this and Rocky is currently in with them having this done. The quote for this procedure is £1,300 so we have set up a Gofundme page to help raise this.”

In just one day that target was met, and then some, with £1,470 raised to date.

Mikey added: “Rocky is a scared yet sweet lad that has had an awful start in life, and to think that he nearly lost his life is just beyond belief.

“We will now ensure that Rocky's future is only bright, and hopefully with the expertise of our wonderful veterinary team he will have a fully functional leg again.”

Speaking about the exceptional amount raised, he added: “Well I am blown away we have smashed the target for Rocky's treatment! I am so, so grateful thank you to everyone that donated.

“When I launched the campaign for Rocky yesterday I knew our supporters would come together, they always do. So huge thank you to everyone that shared and donated we managed to smash the target in less than eight hours.”

He also thanked Murphy's Army, 8 Below Husky Rescue and the Western Telegraph, adding: “Rocky had the procedure done and had to spend last night as an in-patient at our vets, but will be discharged today to his foster home.

“Shaun the wonderful vet that did the procedure said it went very well and Rocky should make a full recovery, although that leg will always be weaker. I will post some updates once we have them.

“Thank you again to our wonderful supporters without you we are nothing.”

The surplus funds raised will go towards any follow-up needs for Rocky, with the web page continuing to operate throughout the day.
