THE summer holidays are going to start with music, art and lots of fun in Haverfordwest and there is still time to get involved.

On the back of last year’s Haverfordwest Festival Week organisers are on the road to an even bigger and better event with a host of local community groups already on board.

Over eight days the county town will be buzzing with music, art, theatre, film and sporting events as well as flowers and food on offer, there really will be something for everyone.

The week begins on with the family day at Pembs Fest - another event continuing from its successful launch last year.

Other events include St Mary’s Church Flower Festival, Little People Art Workshops at the Lab, Art Sail, climbing taster sessions, the Taste of Pembrokeshire, a model boat display, duck race, Haverfootfest – a new fun run through the town – Punch and Judy, a photography exhibition, the return of the Soapbox Derby and competition, Tea Dance, the Beating of the Bounds and much, much more.

Haverfordwest town councillor Sue Murray started the event when she was mayor and was delighted with the town’s response.

“We invited people to the chamber and we filled it,” she said.

All events are organised by individual groups such as the Rotary, Round Table, and youth service and brought under the festival week umbrella by the Haverfordwest Town Council events team who will be promoting this community celebration.

There are already more than 40 groups and charities involved but there is still time to sign up before the programme of events is finalised next month.

One of the organisers, Cllr Gillian Howell, said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate what a group already does and celebrate our town, we have so much to be proud of.”
