Fierfighters tackled a house blaze near Blaenffos, Boncath on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the fire service said that the crews went to house fire which had spread into the roof of a property.

A man and a woman and a "number of cats" were in the property when the fire started.

Both people managed to get out before fire crews arrived on the scene.

Fire service representatives said that nobody had been injured in the blaze.

Fire crews from Crymych and Cardigan, as well as a water bowser from Haverfordwest and the cold cut unit from Tenby attended the incident.

Firefighters used two hose reels and six firefighters in breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.

The fire was contained to one detached property, believed to be called Rose Cottage, at the side of the road, close to Blaencwm Cottages between the B4332 and Golwg Y Garn.

It is believed that the blaze started in the roof or attic of the property but at this stage it is to early to say what caused it.

Tivyside reporter, Dave Parkinson the roof of the property has been burnt away and firefighters on the turn table ladder were removing debris and slates from the roof. The roof was to be covered with sheeting this evening.

The A478 was closed for a period but re-opened later.
