Schoolchildren have been serving up the smiles to cooks and food producers who are giving them a taste of culinary fun at Narberth Food Festival's education day today (Friday).

The kids-only treat is the traditional curtain-raiser to the weekend's festival, and has seen more than 80 pupils from Narberth, Templeton and Tavernspite schools take over the event's giant marquee on the Town Moor.

Learning how to make sausages, butter and pasta, finding out about animal food from the hedgerows and taking part in food-themed yoga and craft have all been on the menu for the enthusiastic youngsters.

They also enjoyed meeting 10-year-old cookbook author and entrepreneur, Dylan Allman from Llangwm, whose latest book is raising money for Action Against Hunger.

Said Narberth Food Festival chairman Colin Russell: "Education Day is one of our great successes.

"To see all those primary school children getting hands-on with cooks and food producers is a joyful and different learning experience.

"Their smiles say it all."

Narberth Food Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday (September 23 and 24), with over 50 stalls, chef demonstrations, a pop-up cookery school, a gin masterclass, live entertainment and children's activities.
