The Western Telegraph has passed another incredible landmark.

At 8.16am on Wednesday, November 15, the total number of pages viewed on the Western Telegraph website during 2017 reached an eye-watering 15,000,000.

The achievement underlines the remarkable growth in the Western Telegraph’s online digital audience during the past year – throughout the whole of 2016, the website clocked up what was considered a hugely impressive 12,579,555 page views. The figure so far for 2017 already leaves that total in the shade.

The increase follows the Western Telegraph being crowned the Best Weekly Newspaper in Wales at the Wales Media Awards earlier this year.

The 15,000,000 views – also known as page impressions – means an astounding 48,387 pages of the Western Telegraph website have been viewed every day of the year since January 1.

On average, 2,016 Western Telegraph pages have been viewed every hour, 24 hours a day, every single day so far this year – the equivalent of 34 pages every minute or more than one new page every two seconds.

The total so far this year amounts to almost five times the total population of Wales or more than the entire populations of Norway, Ireland, Albania and Latvia combined.

“The Western Telegraph continues to go from strength to strength and the outstanding growth in our web audience underlines the newspaper’s status as the place to go for all the latest news and sport in Pembrokeshire,” said editor Steve Adams.

“The Western Telegraph is read by more people than ever before.

“The achievement is testament to the incredible hard work of our editorial team, ensuring all the news that matters is on the Western Telegraph website as it happens.

“I would also like to thank our readers for their continued support – the Western Telegraph is as much their newspaper as it is ours.”

Western Telegraph head of media sales, Mike Owen, said: “The outstanding growth of our web audience shows just how important it is for businesses to adapt and react to changing technology.

“The people of Pembrokeshire know and trust that the Western Telegraph is first with all the news that matters in the county and it is vital for our continued success that we remain the place people come when they want to know what is happening.

“The success of our website also provides businesses with a fantastic opportunity to reach our readers and their customers directly.

“Here at the Western Telegraph we are extremely excited about the future – both in print and online – and these web figures prove the people and businesses of Pembrokeshire are with us as we continue to grow going forward.”
