TWO PEMBROKESHIRE College art and design students have received an art gallery runner-up title.
Nia Palmer and Hannah-Marie John, have received honourable mention from Oriel Myddrin Gallery for their competition entries.
In celebration of Carmarthen’s Welsh Week and Visit Wales’ Year of the Sea campaign, Oriel Myddrin Gallery invited people of all ages to create their own imaginative ‘Big Fish’ tales about an adventure in a coracle.
Entrants had to create an imaginative and engaging narrative in the form of a storyboard, exhibiting their artistic talents by including few or no words.
Nia, from Pembroke Dock, and Hannah-Marie, from Saundersfoot, were praised for their contemporary view of a mermaid tale, by addressing topical issues such as ocean pollution.
Both appreciated the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and are grateful to the gallery for awarding them with the runner-up title.
Art and Design lecturer, Hew Fuller said: “The competition came at a fortuitous time as we were working on an animation project and developing storyboards, so it fitted nicely.”
