NARBERTH is to lose its last remaining on-street cashpoint with the closure of the town’s NatWest bank, it has been confirmed.

A strong plea has been made to bank bosses to keep the cashpoint when the branch shuts in June, as it the only outdoor one remaining on the High Street.

Despite fears that trade at local shops and cafes will be hit by customers losing a convenient facility to access their cash, NatWest has said they are to stand by their decision.

MP Simon Hart recently organised a meeting between the bank and community leaders. He said: “Of particular concern to traders and customers in Narberth was the fact that NatWest was closing the last remaining on-street cashpoint in town,” said Mr Hart.

“We asked them to look again at their proposal, but they have written back to confirm that they have received the decision and stand by it, because they do not think the ATM will be busy enough.”

However, the bank has said that it will work with the Nisa supermarket, off Spring Gardens, to improve lighting at Narberth’s remaining outdoor cashpoint, which is situated in the shop’s car park.

It also confirmed that - following the branch’s closure on June 28 - the replacement mobile bank will be available at the Town Moor car park every Tuesday fxrom 10.30am until 11.15am.

NatWest announced three Pembrokeshire branch closures last December.

In addition to Narberth, Pembroke will shut on May 21 and Milford Haven on June 21.

Also scheduled for closure on May 30 is the Cardigan branch.
