SPACEHOPPERS have been spotted tearing through the streets of Haverfordwest, in the first ever race by rubber ball the town has ever seen.

Carol Jenkins, landlady of the Friars Vaults organised the relay race around the town centre in aid of ward 10 at Withybush General Hospital.

The space hopper race took place on Friday, March 9 from 5.45pm, with four teams racing through the town centre – two from the Friars Vaults, one from the Greyhound Hotel, and one from the Farmers Arms.

Some of the teams turned up in fancy-dress, with competitors dressed as Smurfs, Pokemon, and in onesies.

The racers were pelted from the side lines with water bombs, and cheating was openly encouraged!

Nearly £1,200 for was raised to support cancer care services at ward 10.

After the race, competitors celebrated with an evening of music by Trigger from Withybush hospital, Jerome from the Torch Theatre, and Robbie well-known international rock star in an acoustic session with songs by Snow Patrol, Pink Floyd, Beatles and more.

There are plans to build on the event for next year with a larger number of teams.

The teams would like to thank everyone who supported the race, as well as Jason Slater for his sponsorship and donation.
