FISHGUARD International Music Festival has been awarded a share of £40,000 from Loteri Cymru's awarding body, Hanfod Cymru.

The festival, now in its 49th year, will use the £1,380 funding to stage two concerts aimed at younger audiences.

Over recent years the festival has included a daytime concert specifically aimed at families with young children, with the aim of opening up the festival to younger audiences and helping children experience live music.

This year will see two concerts aimed at families and a younger audience.

Welsh folk group Alaw is putting on a special family concert promising a musical journey of joyous and life affirming music at 11am on July 30 in Theatr Gwaun.

Then at 11am on August 2, Craig Ogden, one of the world's finest classical guitarists and a household name to listeners of Classic FM, is putting on a family-friendly concert at Tabor Chapel, Dinas.

Both events cost just £1 for under 16s and only £5 for 16-25-year olds.

“We are thrilled to have been successful in securing a grant from Hanfod Cymru towards the staging of two daytime concerts by Alaw and guitarist Craig Ogden at this year’s festival," said festival trustees, Mike Molloy.

"Their support will enable us to keep prices as low as possible and we hope this will encourage families to attend and enjoy music making of the highest order. Our organisation places huge importance on developing audiences for the future and one way we can do so is by offering tickets at affordable prices”.

Hanfod Cymru is the body responsible for distributing money raised by Loteri Cymru ticket sales. While Loteri Cymru announced recently that it has ceased trading, Hanfod Cymru's work continues.

Siôn Brynach, chief executive of Hanfod Cymru, said: "The 11 charities that will now share £40,000 will, I'm sure, make a significant impact on the communities they serve."
