NINE brave ladies will be stepping out of their comfort zone on Saturday to perform the controversial play The Vagina Monologues.

The group, some of who will be making their first stage appearance, will be presenting the collection of human stories at a sell-out charity event in Narberth.

Organiser Gill Douglas is organising the ladies day at the Plas Hyfryd Hotel in aid of the Eve Appeal, which researches into vaginal cancers; Breast Cancer Now; Paul Sartori Hospice at Home and Hafren Cymru, which offers domestic violence information and support.

“The Vagina Monologues is a celebration of women all over the world, and the girls have chosen a broad section of scripts to perform,” she said. “They’ve been working really hard with Cherylee and Med Barker from Narberth Youth Theatre, and I feel very proud watching them gain in confidence. They are amazingly brave, and it’s going to be a very emotional performance.”

Gill fundraises for women’s charities at the inspiration of her sister, Sandra Morris, who died from breast cancer five years ago. “My previous ladies day event raised £10,000, and I’m hoping that this one will bring in at least £6,000,” she said. “As it’s the royal wedding day, we hope that everyone will be in celebratory mood and come dressed for the occasion.

“We’ve got drinks and canapes to start, with a buffet after the performance; a swing-style singer, an auction, raffles and games and a local band to take us into the evening. All the tickets have been sold and we’re looking forward to it being a wonderful, inspirational day that raises lots of money for our charities.”
