MILFORD Haven lost 'a truly magnificent entertainer' following the death of Roger Arnold on Sunday, at the age of 73.

Roger will be well known to many readers as a fantastic comedian, entertainer and musician over several decades, including the loved Knight and Daye and the 'compere without compare' for the Milford Mercury Talent Contests.

Mercury columnist and lifelong friend Jeff Dunn, said: "The guy was a truly magnificent entertainer, and, over the last 20 plus years, has been involved in most of my fundraising shows/plays.

"I will never forget his truly outstanding portrayal as "Pop" in my musical play 'The Day War Broke Out', he was awesome.

"He was also a great compere in all the Mercury Talent Contests I organised. The guy was a legend.

"Roger and I were Milford kids from the same era, grew up in the days of skiffle and shared a love of music and laughter, which, when we collaborated in my entertainment shows, made everything so much easier.

He was always "up" for all my show ideas and ensured that they were done properly and professionally.

"My deepest sympathy goes to Margaret and the family. RIP Roger, Heaven is all the richer to have you."

Roger's funeral will take place on Friday June 29 at 1.45pm at St Katharine and St Peter's Church, Milford Haven, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth at 3.15pm.

There will be family flowers only but donations in lieu for the Paul Sartori Foundation can be sent direct to Paul Sartori House, Winch Lane, Haverfordwest,

Tom Newing & Sons are conducting the funeral arrangements.
