A Pembrokeshire couple have today (Friday) admitted treating their child cruelly by failing to take him for medical treatment following a mystery incident in which he suffered burns.

The couple, both aged 36, appeared before Judge Geraint Walters at Swansea crown court for plea and trial preparation hearing.

They entered pleas of guilty to cruelty to the child in May, 2015.

Robin Rouch, prosecuting, said it was his case that the child was injured on May 16 and that he did not receive medical treatment until May 21.

He said both the man and woman had changed their stories over the months and it was impossible to say "exactly" how the boy had been injured.

The court heard he had since been adopted.

Judge Walters agreed to postpone sentencing until a probation officer had prepared reports into their backgrounds.

He said it might be necessary for a further hearing for the sentencing judge to decide the extent of the couple's offending.
